voc 2021 episode 04: Linda Harris
Harriet Tubman Museum & Learning Center, Cambridge, Maryland
On Sept. 5, Linda Harris and seven other women walked in the steps of Harriett Tubman on the Underground Railroad from Cambridge, Maryland to Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. “We’ve been inspired to walk to encourage healing during these turbulent times. There is much social unrest. And we know that finding our center, communing with nature, beauty and the quiet moments is a place to start. When we clear our minds, we are FREE to explore all the possibilities. Harriett is symbolic of the Freedom we need, the Freedom we must have to succeed,” says Linda.
The Harriet Tubman Museum & Educational Center is one of the oldest community organizations dedicated to the memory of Harriet Tubman. Over the past three decades, their efforts have included memorials to Tubman, tours to significant sites associated with her life, museum exhibits, educational programming, celebrations and community outreach.
Founded in the mid-1980s, the Harriet Tubman Organization is dedicated to preserving Tubman’s connection to the local community and to helping young people see Tubman as a role model. The museum hosts numerous programs throughout the year, including an annual memorial banquet in March. The organization’s members have inspired community action and encouraged interpretation and research into Harriet’s life and legacy.
